Armenia considers the UPR as a unique, global peer review mechanism that effectively contributes to the fulfilment of the Council’s mandate both in protection and promotion of human rights and the development agenda.

In this regard, Armenia is convinced that the whole of a society approach, the one that garners the participation of Governments, Parliaments, National human rights institutions, civil society and other stakeholders can bring about genuine results. We also believe that the holistic approach to the implementation of State’s obligations and commitments in the area of human rights requires certain level of cohesion and complementarity with other reviews and processes, such as the Treaty Bodies, SPMH, VNRs. The UN wide approach can also be beneficial for the implementation for the UPR recommendations. In Armenia the UNDP supported implementation of the UPR recommendations through training and the development of standard operating procedures, including for using improved investigation techniques by the police.

Armenia recently submitted its mid-term report. We encourage to make a wide use of this practice that can further enhance the cooperative and holistic spirit of the UPR process.
